Welcome to summer 2022! Today was the big day and we couldn't be more excited to welcome our 300 Mah-Kee-Nac campers back to camp or arriving for their first time ever. The kids will never forget their summer home!  Today's weather was beautiful and sunny and "The Bowl" (our lake) was shimmering and ready for fun!

Speaking of The Bowl, the day started with swim tests for all three campuses.  Following a long bus or car ride, nothing feels better than a plunge into our refreshing lake. After their swims, the kids settled into bunks - saying hello to old friends, meeting new ones, and getting to know their counselors. 

​

Afternoon and evening was action-packed, beginning with our first summer cook-out. The boys happily dug into burgers and dogs - travel and excitement clearly works up a hunger. Jamie held our first Saturday night huddle and led one of his famous talks. Camp is mostly fun and games, but we also like to pause at MKN and talk about values like friendship, kindness, leadership and more. 

 

After the huddle, everyone gathered around as the Senecas (our oldest bunk - you'll hear a lot about them) lit lanterns for opening ceremonies. They sent the lanterns into the sky, officially kicking off summer 2022.​

 

Everyone then headed into the field house where Greg (our special events director) gave an opening welcome speech. The Senecas delivered the Mah-Kee-Nac oath which was repeated by the whole camp. The leadership staff introduced themselves and gave valuable summer tips before the whole camp broke into a dance party.  Everyone sang danced to all the Mah-Kee-Nac songs.
